Launch 08 - Rise Up and Build
Introduction
(Hab 2:2 NKJV) Then the LORD answered me and said: "Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it.
Quoted many times – often not in its context
- This scripture is part of Gods answer to Habakkuk’s complaint
- Chapter one consists of 2 complaints
- His complaints were about
- Injustice – Lawlessness – Oppression
His complaint puts him in good company
- Moses, Nehemiah, Gideon, Jeremiah all shared a similar complaint
Modern day visionaries were also driven by a complaint
- Martin Luther king – racism and human rights
- Mother Theresa – hunger and poverty
As important as vision is….
1. A vision needs a complaint
At the root of every history-makers calling is a compliant.
At the core of every visionary leaders life is a deep dissatisfaction with how things are.
The complaint is what gives the vision meaning.
- Must present the problem first – then the vision
Our problem:
- Present property is too small
- Run out of room – hindering growth
- E.g. kids feet growing – don’t cut off toes – but new shoes
- Big God and a big vision – but our property is far too small
I see a church Of 1000’s not just hundreds – need room for that.
Want you to imagine with me for a moment...
- Imagine a property free from neighbours complaining about the volume of the music
- Imagine a property that is large enough to easily park 400 cars
- Imagine having enough office space that all our staff could have their own office and room for more
- Imagine having enough room for all our children so that we don’t have to take them off site anymore
- Imagine a café that is 3 times the size of our present one
- Imagine a café with an indoor playground that could double as a midweek business and outreach
- Imagine having a stack more toilets
- Imagine an auditorium that could house 1200 people at one time passionately praising God
- Imagine being closer to main roads gaining more visibility and recognition
- Imagine a fresh new look that communicates relevance and excellence
- Imagine the possibility of all this being only 2.5kms away
Play video of me at the property
- Need eyes of faith – For those that still can't see it (watch this)
- Play 3D walk through
Question: Do you want it?
Do you really want it?
2. A vision needs runners – those that get involved
A vision needs a complaint and a complaint needs some action
- We don’t have a complaints department
- We have an action department
- E.g. Jesus – sends out the disciples
Luk 10:1-3 NIV After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. (2) He told them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. (3) Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.
- Result:
Luk 10:17 NIV The seventy-two returned with joy and said, "Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name." - Joy – life – excitement – passion – a stronger bond
We are created for action
- Many people think that the church expects too much of its members. Reality is it asks too little
Men are achievers – we love a challenge
- Want to do something meaningful – something beyond ourselves – something lasting
Where there is no expectation – things stagnate
- Building project
- Lot of work – lot of money – lot of fun – lot of stories
- Best of all – a lot of lasting friendships
3. A vision needs to be clear
God told Habakkuk to make the vision plain…so here it is...
1. The property we are looking at is presently not for sale
Willing to lease it to us
- At land value only (even though there is a building on it)
- Long lease (10+5+5)
- First option to buy
- Owns whole corner block (15 acres)
- Love to own the whole lot
This is a facility that allows us to move to the next stage
- Increase our numbers
- 20 percent growth every year for the next 10 years = 4500-5000
- Increase our income
- Allows us to afford what we need to build in the future
Also receive income we would get for renting this property out
- May sell property & replace with other properties of same value
- Want to hedge in the property market
- That if property value doubles
- Riding with wave of property value increases
Best financial decision at present
Can’t afford to move to next stage any other way
- Can't afford to buy a facility this size right now
- To purchase our own property would cost 3 times more
- Good stepping stone (note: rented this property first)
- Sensible 10 year management plan
2. Need to invest money into the property to get it up to scratch
The investment is $1 million
Strategy 1 – payment off the interest
- $1 Million @ 10% = $100,000……$8333 per month
- 100 people giving $83 per month will service the loan
- That’s $20 p/w on top of regular giving for 100 people
- Victory Church is a lot larger than that
Strategy 2 – paying off the principle
- 10 payments of $100,000
- Mini objectives - $100,000
- $1 Million @ 10% = $100,000... ...$8333 per month
- 100 people giving $83 per month will service the loan
- That’s $20 p/w on top of regular giving for 100 people
Looking for annual commitments
- To be reviewed every year
Pledge forms handed out next week
- Give you a week to think about a commitment you are willing to make
If we can achieve these figures – we can have it all and have it NOW
Conclusion
- All receiving an email about what I have shared with you today
- As well a property update
- Letting everyone know where things are at right now
- New display board in café with all the latest info on it
- It will be regularly updated
Last thing:
Launch Graham – VBN
- Pastor - Chief coordinator that's all
- Need someone to coordinate this activity so we can extract their activities to bring out the best for the church
- Need a committed (full time) person to do that
